At the end of each month, there are many parts of my journal practice that I reflect upon. My favorite is Highlights. This is where I go back through my journal posts and photos to remember the joys of the month; those sparkling moments that give my life meaning and are in alignment with my energy. (Here’s a more detailed explanation of Month in Review.)

My April Highlights!

How do you know that they are Highlights

  • It’s the laughter and ease you feel in those moments and connections.

Why is it a sacred part of the month to sit and Reflect?

  • Because we desire to bring joy to the forefront of our lives! Negativity, bad memories, hurtful feelings tend to rise to the surface quicker than our Highlights but energy flows where reflecting goes.

  • Journaling and self-awareness are about understanding what works, makes us happy, feels like a hug, and is relaxing. This practice allows us the space to  remember what matters.

  • Upon reflection, you may realize what someone means to you so perhaps you’ll send them a note thanking them for the tea date or walk and set up another one.

  • When we do something we love, it’s a thumbs up reminder to do it again!

Along with noting the Highlights of the month, I read through my journal posts. If something didn’t feel right or wasn’t enjoyable, I may say no to that in the future. That opens space for more Sparkling Moments.

Being Self-aware and Reflecting on the Highlights and Sparkling Moments of our lives:

  • Clarifies what brings us joy

  • Prioritizes what matters

  • Clears out what doesn’t serve

Here are some of my April Highlights:

Three women holding painted canvases

Paint & Sip with my niece, Alysia, and sister, Michele

Harley Davidson yellow Nightster Special

Girasolé (sunflower in Italian), my HD Nightster Special!

Your Highlights can be personal, relational, work, social, creative; whatever you looked forward to and enjoyed. Maybe you’ll journal why it mattered and how it brought you joy.

What are your April Highlights? I’d love to read them in the comments!
